Greener Schools

A healthier, greener and more sustainable environment
Making the switch to energy-efficient lighting is the first step towards a greener future for the next generation.
Schools

Why should we go green?

Switching to LED lighting could save your school up to 70% of your energy costs, create a better working environment for pupils and staff alike while helping to reduce your carbon footprint.

Not only could you generate savings of hundreds of thousands of pounds, which you could invest elsewhere, but LED lighting can improve sleep, boost concentration levels and enhance reading comprehension.

Making our world greener for future generations is a governmental priority. Schools now need to be seen as green and take steps towards adopting sustainable strategies, reducing carbon emissions and saving on their energy costs.

Energy-efficient lighting is a perfect starting point.

Working in partnership with Green Tree Energy Savings Solutions, your journey towards a healthier, safer and greener environment couldn’t be easier.

Benefits for schools

The decision to go green still remains at the discretion of each individual school for now. No one knows the premises or understands the needs of pupils and staff as well as you do.

However, as well as huge financial savings, leading the way to become a more sustainable and energy-efficient school has other benefits:

1. Access to fully-compliant funding

Salix Finance provides interest-free government funding to the public sector to be spent on improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy bills. A new round is opening in Autumn 2020.

Maxxia, also provides funding for green initiatives and sustainable projects within schools. These fully compliant, operating leases act in accordance with the school funding regulations in the Education Act.

2. Increased productivity

LED lighting can increase participation and concentration compared to the fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs currently used in classrooms.

3. Improved reading comprehension

Pupils’ reading comprehension has been shown to improve due to the nature of the full spectrum light LED lighting emits and the enhanced illumination it provides.

4. Better sleep

Again, the full spectrum light, only otherwise provided by sunlight, triggers a hormonal response, helping the body produce the melatonin and dopamine during the evening hours that help us sleep.

5. Reduced maintenance

LED lights have a much longer life span, reducing the need for replacements throughout the year and less disruption to the school day and student activities.

6. Educating the next generation

Adopting a greener policy will also help our children recognise the importance and the benefits of sustainable energy and empower them to improve our environment and drive future changes.
